About Us

Six to Six Interdistrict Magnet School in Bridgeport, Conn., is a unique preschool-through-grade eight educational setting where high academic standards facilitate the development of lifelong learners, problem-solvers and independent thinkers. Our philosophy centers on the belief that all children can learn at higher levels when schools utilize effective communication, parental and community involvement, high expectations, ongoing assessment, intentional teaching and collaboration.

Six to Six has evolved into a science, math and technology magnet school through the 2007 U.S. Department of Education Magnet School Assistance Project grant. All students in kindergarten through eighth grade participate in inquiry-based science activities through partnerships with the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, the Eli Whitney Museum, NASA, and The Jason Project.

Modeled after Yale University's CoZi Model for School Reform, Six to Six was designed to meet the needs of the whole child and the needs of today's families. Our curriculum includes instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education, Library Media, and Spanish. We also value the importance of social emotional learning through our Responsive Classroom approach. To meet the needs of today's families, our school includes before- and after-school programs, a full-time NAEYC accredited preschool and kindergarten program.

Teachers at Six to Six strive to know each child as an individual and to work in partnership with the family to understand the child’s social and academic growth in order to meet the child’s needs with appropriate learning experiences. The relationship between teachers and children is the foundation for creating a nurturing classroom community where children respect, care for, and learn from one another. Student learning and assessment are the focus of our teachers’ professional growth and school improvement plans.
